Does sound like you have over protected it.
The second lighter version sounds like a good way to go, then you can compare the handling and have spares for the preferred one...

Good trick getting it around the post and back while under the washing lines....
Its flight weight is 0.5oz or 15g...
Very very light and fragile feeling - really nice to fly though. Has elevator and rudder, so is 3 channel.
Worth a look for the BNF (bind and fly) version, took 5 minutes to bind to the DX7 and most of that was entering the name in a new memory space.
