I have been flying at a local park that is quite large with 4 baseball fields, a skate park, and horseshoe pits. The horse shoe pits work perfect for me, since I have never seen any horse shoe enthusiasts there. It is a mowed grass area and has a covered picnic bench next to it. The only problem is sometimes i stray over the skate park or baseball fields. Mostly I head out over the swamp. But I am worried about safety and will not fly if there are games in progress.
But, there is a huge field of Timothy right across the street, maybe 1 mi by 1/2 mi in dimensions.
But there is a big sign that says "No Trespassing".
So asked at a house on the other side of the field if they owned the field. No, but the lady gave me the name of the former owner who I called who gave me the cell phone number of the current owner who i called and he said sure, go ahead and fly your helicopter there. Just don't drive out onto the field with your car.
BAM, I have a wonderful new 320 acre field to fly in with no overhead wires at all covered in short growing Timothy. I am elated! I tired it out at lunch. Tossed a big cardboard box down for a landing pad, and flew out 2 packs. What a treat!
Afterwards I picked up some garbage that others had tossed where I parked. Then I discovered there was even a working outhouse 20 ft away on the field. Bonus!
So it does pay to ask. An electric heli is very eco friendly. And most people find them interesting. But please do ask, and don't just fly somewhere because it looks good. It is polite to ask permission, and then you don't have any worries about the law.
