Which is which, on the newer version if I remember correctly it will flicker red 10 times then go solid green. On the older one it just goes solid green and this is the one that you need to power down and up again for the set button to have an effect.
I have seen some place, but can't now find, that you can tell them by the serial number but that only comes up in the software - or maybe its on the package. If you can find the number a quick email to Captron in Germany will give you the answer.
I don't think it matters which mode, orange or green.
