how quickly do these things burn out?

I've had mine 2 weeks, completely stock, and not even really had much propper flight time with the weather as it is, and already the motor seems to have burned out (don't have a multimeter to check it , but a spare I have runs up if I plug it into the RX. Don't ahve a soldering iron so can't swap it over, guess a trip to Maplin is in order on sat.

How does one know which way to solder the wires on? ie polarity wise?
