This is for all the people out there who are trying to setup their belt cp with the hitec optic 6 transmitter. I have often searched this forum to get some hints with little success.
I am also using a hitec electron6 receiver in this setup, my belt cp has been upgraded with alloy head and tail, futaba GY240 gyro also I am using stock speedy, motor and servos......no glitches!
I have only setup for "learning to hover" at the moment and I suggest you consult the manual for idle up 1 & 2 for further settings, if you are also a "learner" you will need to learn to hover first anyway. As you get better at hovering you will learn how changeing your setup will affect the chopper & therefore adjust settings to better suit yourself better in the future.
Assuming that you have a copy of the manual (if you don't google optic6 manual) page 44 is where it all starts.
1. The belt CP has a 120° swash plate which is shown in the diagram. Attach servos to your reciever as shown in this diagram:
CH6 = top rear servo on frame
CH2 = front servo on frame
CH1 = bottom rear servo on frame
2. You will now need to attach the tail servo (on the tail boom) to the gyro input socket and then attach the gyro lead to CH4 (as the gyro controls the tail rotor for heading)
3. If your gyro has a remote gain control you will use CH5, my gyro does not however have this capability so I cannot help you here.
4. Speed controller will be CH3 as per usual with hitec gear see page 46 in the manual for hitec's explanation of setup.
5. As you work through the manual from page 46 you will need to follow the instructions for:
a) choosing your model type HELI
b) swash type 120°
c) REV servo directions
CH1 normal
CH2 reversed
CH3 nornal
CH4 normal
CH5 normal
CH6 reversed
If you are not using the esky 8g servos, you may need to reverse directions differently and I suggest you make sure they move as they should before tou power up & try to fly
d) T.CUT 0% (throttle cut)
e) PMX1 inh
f) PMX2 inh
g) R to T 0%
h) GYRO inh (if you don't have remote gain)
i) HOLD inh (unless you want to use throttle hold ,probably not at a learner stage)
j) THCV (throttle curve) - for practice hovering 0%,40%,55%,70%,90%
k) PTCV (pitch curve) - make sure you setup tour pitch at half throttle to vale of 0 on pitch guage first! 60%,60%,60%,75%,100%
l) MX.SS - no settings here
m) RVMX normal mode 0%
n)SWAH - this is very important & took me a while to figure out why head was moving in wrong directions to transmitter sticks!
CH1 SWAH +70%
CH2 SWAH + 70%
CH6 SWAH -70% (this not a typo!) make sure this value is NEGATIVE or the belt will try to fly into the ground not the air!
o) EPA100% - for me you may wish to check your end point adjustments and make sure all serv linkages are square to the vertical axis of your chopper.
p) D/R 100%
q) EXP 0% - for channels 1,2 &4
r) S.TRM 0% - depends on how you are setup but check page 47
I suggest you consult the manual while setting up your transmitter.
Disconnect the wires to the motor (red black & blue) and connect your battery to your chopper and watch what each setup menu item does to the servos and rotor head. This way you will learn what each setting can do, which will allow you to setup your transmitter and helicopter to best suit your flying style.
You may find that my settings do not work well for you, but I hope I have helped you setup your optic6 with the belt CP with a basic understanding on how the belt works (if you know how the belt works you will be able to adjust your tx accordingly) as it is a much better transmitter than the stock one and gives you many more options and finer trimming for your flying style.
I must input a disclaimer here & say that I take no responsibility at all for any misfortune you have with "my" setups. Make sure you test your chopper with motor disconnected before you attempt to fly! Make sure the rotor moves in it's correct directions left, right, forward & backwards and also check your pich of the blades is +ve for increased throttle and -ve for decreased throttle if you have allowed a negative pitch in your pitch curve settings.
If anyone else out ther has any settings or hints they would like to add you are welcome to do so, it would be interseting to see some other optic 6 users add more information for belt cp flyers.
Good luck to you. I hope this has helped.
