It just needed doing!!!
First flight was this evening. And fitting the training wheels was a smart move.
In case you're interested it flew like Zebedee on speed.
Initially a power input would result in simultaneous pitch, roll and at least a 45 degree yaw. But once I'd turned the gain up on the gyro, moved the link on the rudder servo outboard a couple of stops and also calmed down the settings in the TX it began to fall into shape. I eventually got it to the point where I could almost say that it was under control, some of the time.
And it's still in one piece.
