I placed the questions and got a lot of recommendations about motors and batteries in both T-Rex and CopterX sections of this forum, and so I’m posting this in both places again – I hope that this might be useful no matter if you fly a prototype or its clone.
I’ve never had any batteries better than Mystery 2400mAh, and I considered them to be not bad. Today I tried the first time the “heatproof” EC Power batteries I was asking about here not far ago, and I understood that I was wrong about Mysteries. So, today’s flight may be considered to be the first real test of the baby.
With the Scorpion HK-2213-14 motor I have in the heli, as soon as I moved the throttle stick the same way as I did it with Mysteries, the heli just jumped up to about 15 feet.
I put it down really fast, almost dropped it, and successfully braked about a foot over ground. And in a second it happened – the blades were just torn apart in the mid air. Luckily, it was just this foot (if not less) to fall. And thanks God I had a training gear on the baby.
Anyhow, the only damage I see for a while are these pseudo CF blades (don’t buy them, they are just foam made garbage with a piece of wire at the mounting hole, which you can clearly see it on the picture), and slightly bent tail fin (you can see it on the picture). There may be of course some hidden damage, servos for example, but I don’t see it for a while.
So,
1. The HK2213-14 Scorpion motor gives plenty of power, much, much more than I expected.
2. The EC Power “heatproof” batteries really work fine, although I can’t tell anything about their real capacitance of lifespan.
3. The pseudo CF blades are real piece of garbage, and they are very dangerous – the broken piece that you can see on the picture was found about 30 meters from the place I flew the heli
All the best,
Starik
