I must confess to having done the same, I only fly in HH mode. On my DX6i you change the gyro rate with the gyro switch but you can't turn toggle the revo with the same switch, only the Flight mode/id ...

I would go for a Fixed pitch heli like the HoneyBee FP. The difference between how the easy copter flys to a tail rotor heli is huge. You have to constantly put in corrections to stop the heli flying ...
