A lot of the problems found with all helicopters can often be traced to to the obvious, that only become obvious once the problem has been found.
More often than not the problem is so simple that no one has thought of it!

To that end all of the most common problems that will cause your walkera 4 not to work will be posted here shortly only moderators will be allowed to edit this post so any tips and fixes that you have please post as a new topic with subject Walkera 4 or send me a PM, and it will be transferred here, that way we'll have a clean clear list of all of the most common problems and links to the post that will explain it better or simply for more information.

Your post will then be deleted and credit given to you here.
Thanks

Joe

Receiver will not calibrate

Make sure your throttle is set to zero then disconnect the helicopter battery then reconnect it and try again.

Ensure that your crystal is in fact installed in the receiver and secured, this one is very common especially when a new receiver is bought!
Make sure that the crystals in both the transmitter and receiver are the same.
Check that both pins on the crystal are tightly in place bend outwards slightly, if loose ( CCourtesy of Stephen (Bigga)
Batteries in the transmitter too weak
Make sure your DIP PINS haVE the following settings:-
1 3 4 all ON the rest OFF
Your may have a mode 1 transmitter when you think it is mode 2 (CHECK HERE)

Erratic flying behaviour

This one covers a wide spectrum, from electrical to mechanical.

Electrical:-
Loose receiver connection
Loose, dry joint or disconnected antenna wire entering the receiver
Weak transmitter or helicopter batteries
Loose crystal in transmitter or helicopter
Loose antenna wire inside of your transmitter
Interference from another RC transmitter
You are reaching the end of your transmitters range.

Your receiver aerial is coiled or too close to a servo or motor Thanks to Geoff
Interference from wireless routers, (indoors) Again thanks to Geoff
Your flybar paddles are not parallel or loose.

My Walkera 4 won't lift off!
Make sure your main rotor blades are rotating clockwise as viewed from above if not Check all of your connections to your 4 in 1 ( receiver )

You may think they are correctly wired but if you have bought a new one or disconnected any of the connectors it is very easy to connect to the wrong connector

Check Here for general setup

Main blades out of pitch or damaged
Tail blade has worked loose

Heli wont lift off, battery isn't fully charged/damaged, or battery and motor connectors have come loose/not properly attached Thanks to Little and Large

Your transmitters antenna/ aerial is NOT fully extended, quite common when you are flying outside for the first time!

Tail/Gyro not responding during flight
it is important to let the 4 in 1 finish calibrating when the battery is connected, do not move the model whilst the calibration is in process as this can lead to tail control problems. Again thanks to Little and Large

My main blades won't rotate

Check that the motor cables are firmly pushed into their connectors on the receiver. (Picture

You may have broken the main drive shaft.
Check to see if the pin is intact that is situated just below the blade clamps, if so replace with similar wire ( paper clip)
The teeth on your main drive wheel may be damaged or some missing.

Your main motor may be burnt out, change over the motor connectors to eliminate the main motor.
Your receiver may be faulty.
