Just wanted to tell everyone that I took advantage of some great weather this evening (no wind at all) to do something I've never tried before. Although I've taken my Lamas up to around 100 ft before, just strait up and then tried to get them back down to the ground safely.
This evening I took one of my V3's up to about 50 feet and tried actually flying around (forward flight and turning) and it was really fun as I did it at length.
After successfully getting it back down and letting it cool, I slowly took the Lama up to about 75 feet and flew around in some circles and (near figure eights) at that hieght.
I say "near figure eights" as it was extremely difficult to see exactly what the chopper was doing as it was so small.
You can see kinda horizontal movements alot better than you can tell what the chopper is doing up there in the vertical plane.
Once up there I'ts hard to tell "by moment" if the chopper is still ascending/decending or hovering unless you watch it for a few seconds (to see if it's getting bigger or smaller) you can also use the sound of the engines as a guide. You can see forward/reverse/left/right movement pretty good as long as its strait above you.
Although this is dangerous to your Lama, mainly because of radio range as well as the hardest part it is getting your Lama back down safely because you must SLOWLY bring it back down, for if you don't you can easily get into Vortex Ring State and stall and it wil fall out of the sky, its extremely fun and shows just how awesome these "indoor" choppers really are and what they are (REALLY) capable of doing.
I always fly my Lamas with the whole antenna wire hanging strait down so I never have a problem with radio range.
Even though it doesn't look as asthetic as one wrapped around the skidds or tail, it allows for extreme range.
Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know how fun this is and maybe some others will be bold and like to try.
