Dear forum users,

This forum is here for you and we are going to improve the speed and access to useful articles that will help the pilot get flying again ASAP. No promise on timescale but it has been added to the list and it will happen.

The Forum has been taken back under heliguy employee control all volunteers’ admin and mods no longer exist. Chris (watttheheli) our head admin decided he would like to invest his energies else where. I would like to personally thank Chris and all the other volunteer mods that have kept the data in this forum under control and enforced our rules.

We are a commercial site where we have to make money to keep going. With this in mind it is not fair to expect volunteers to protect the rules and principals of our company and possibly take the flack that comes with this.

Thanks for your support.

Joel

Hi Joel,

I realise that this will have been a hard decision, I imagine you are busy enough running the shop but I think you have made a wise decision.

I freely admitt that I have taken a back seat over the past year or so, partly because I finally got back into the working world and partly because I started to take things personally when the moderators and admins were critised for mearly trying to get people to stick to the rules.

As an ex-admin I would like to say thanks to all the moderators that helped me, Joe and Joel keep the forum running smoothly. I would also like to thank Chris for "stepping into the breech" as an admin, I wasn't around much during that time but from what I've read you did a very good job in keeping order.

I would also like to thank all the forum members for making this place what it is today.

It's a shame that it's come to this, but I can completely understand the reasons why. I too appreciate what the volunteer mods have done to help make this forum what it is. Nobody can be everything to everyone, and I agree it's unfair that they have had to take the flack that has been dished out.

It's also unfortunate if this adds to the running costs of the shop/forum, which brings me to my question:

Re the 'report' button, a while ago I was told this generates a report that goes to someone who is no longer active on the forum, is this still the case? If not then we normal members could use it to bring to whoever's attention anything that looks dodgy, thereby making this more of a 'self-policing' forum and minimising the need/work for employed moderators Question

I defiantly agree with Dusty, A report Button is a must on the forum, I for one would like to report a member, who in my eyes should be banned from the forum Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Dusty + Dale

We have a report button and I have set it up so it comes to me - so please feel free to report anyone you feel isn't behaving in a manner that they should.

I could spout rules of the forum here but I think if we all just treat it each how we would want to be treated and mutual respect - anyone falling outside this = report them and we'll deal with them.

I would apreciate if people would use report button for blatant commercial spammers etc....

I will allow off site linking but if it looks a bit contrived they may get deleted.

Thanks

Joel

Hi Joel, thanks for letting us know what the report button now does, blatent commercial spammers etc are what I had in mind, and obviously anything of a serious/offensive nature. I do hope folk remember you have the HG business to run and don't go using the button willy nilly, but all the same it's nice to know it's there Very Happy

By chance I've just come across a blatent commercial spammer here:

http://www.heliguy.com/Forum/viewtopic,p,376987.html#376987

There was no report button until the 3rd post down, so I clicked on it - hope it works Razz

I would just like to thank both the moderators for the good work they have done, and Heliguy for letting us have this in the first place!

Thanks you all.

All I can say is I have had a great time on Heliguy and I am thankful for the friends I have made here. I have enjoyed all of the time I have spent on the forum and I plan to be around for years to come albeit with less frequency.

The reason I was attracted to the forum was the family friendly nature it portrayed. This is a place where you can get top notch advice from a plethora of advanced pilots yet because of the Rules of the Forum it is a place where people of all ages can safely learn one of the most difficult RC hobbies and know that “There are no stupid questions”. The members of this forum embrace all newbies and answer the same old questions while politely pointing them to the stickies where all of those answers can be found Razz

If I didn’t mention Earlgrey I would be remiss. Joe has contributed more to this forum than anyone in the early years and has helped shape the direction Heliguy has taken. He is still a great friend and a mentor. Thank you Joe!!!

So to Joel, Joe, and all of the mods and admin past and present I say thanks for the great site you have all made. And also thank you to all of the members. I can tell you that the report button worked just fine win I was admin. Razz and it was used properly for the most part. I was always amazed to see how the members were sometimes able to drive a spammer away with their comments. The overwhelming majority of members always stick to the rules and have no patience for those who do not. That is what makes this place great. So thanks to you all and I’ll see you around.

Chris

Thank you for the kind words. I recall the work you did making the super stickies when Joe had an extended leave of absence. I thought you pulled it off very smoothly with no interruption to the forum. Didn’t want you to think it went unnoticed. Razz

It is a place that admins and moderators can go to discuss things or make suggestions, that the general members are not allowed to read.

Hope this helps,
