Weather: light breeze, sunny
Date: 26-4-08
Time: 11:00 am
Helicopter: Falcon 400 SE 3D
Problem: tail rotor failure
Cause: Servo travel limit
Damage: none ( very lucky )
comments:
The tail rotor servo position and horn length allowed the gyro to push against the tailwing gear set which it does at power up. This gradually pulled the tairotor drive shaft through the gear until the end of the shaft was no longer sitting properly in the bearing. In flight the tail rotor shaft came loose from the bearing and tail rotor drive was lost.
Fortunately this was at low altitide so I was able to kill the power and land without damage.

Lost control#250 Posted By: Rich
Posted On: 30 of April 2008, at 3.44 pm
Weather: Calm, slight breeze
Date: Sun 27th April
Time: 10.00 ish
Helicopter: HBK2
Problem: Lost control
Cause: Unexpected gust of wind
Damage: Bent boom, trashed main blades, feathering shaft, flybar, flybar centre holder, washout base, bell control arms and a blade clamp
comments:
Hovering nicely about 15 feet up went slightly higher above the tree line and the wind caught it and I panicked and plunged it into the ground.
Weather: 10 mph
Date: 4-27-08
Time: 8:30 pm
Helicopter: trex 450 se v2
Problem: untuned gyro and rookie pilot in the dark
Cause: wagging and panick, cut power 2 ft up
Damage: tail boom strike, main blades, bent main shaft
comments:
grasshopper need patience and fatter wallet.
Still looking for damages.
Flying in the dark
3rd battery pack :(
Weather: Gusty
Date: 26/04/2008
Time: 16:45
Helicopter: Mini Titan
Problem: New Pilot - bad reaction
Cause: Pilot Error
Damage: Boom Strike - Need to replace boom and mixing arms
comments:
Learning to fly, on my 5th pack this weekend, just starting to hover above the ground, heli headed for a wall and i reacted badly by jamming the throttle down, bad idea!! luckily CF blades bounce right off the boom.. not so lucky for the mixing arms though :)
Weather: Sunny and calm conditions
Date: 12 April 2008
Time: 14h30
Helicopter: Hirobo Shuttle Plus 2
Problem: Tail rotor blade broke, while hovering 30 cm off the ground. The tail rotor gearbox exploded and the helicopter went into a series of rapid pirouettes. During the first pirouette, it threw the battery and the canopy off and crashed.
Cause: Not sure but failure of the blade definitely not due to a ground strike. My Shuttle is mounted on pontoons with plenty of ground clearance. Suspect fatigue of the blade since it broke just outside the thickened mounting surface.
Damage: Tail rotor gearbox shattered, Vertical fin broken in two, belt snapped in two places, boom destroyed, main blades damaged, spindle, flybar and main shaft bent. One tail boom brace bent and tail rotor servo gear stripped.
comments:
My Shuttle has given me many hours of reliable service. It helped me to master nose in hovering, nose in landing and nose in take-offs. I have done four auto rotations with this bird without damage. I
hope that someone out there could give me their views on what caused this failure, since the blades have never even touched the ground.

Weather: Calm Ground Speed 0-2MPH
Date: 20/06/2007

Helicopter: Syma Dragonfly
Problem: Signal
Cause: Out of Range and Cockpit Fire
Damage: Fire, Major Cockpit Damage
comments:
Helicopter Went out of range and got higher and higher untill the battery went dead and it cam down into a field 2 miles away!
When I got to the field the
Battery caught fire before it started decending and caused major damage to to cockpit of the helicopter and most of electrical system had to be replaced.
Amazingly the Landing Gear Battery Holder, Main Frame and Blades were still in good condition.
