Does the DJI Osmo Mobile Gimbal work with iPhone, Samsung and other Android Devices?

Any recent iPhone or Android phone should be supported. However, there are a couple of things to keep in mind:

  • Bluetooth 4.0 is required to use this device.
  • The dimensions must not exceed 84.8mm long or 8.4mm thick.

Please Note - Some features (ActiveTrack in particular) may not be available on certain devices. The iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5 do not support ActiveTrack.


DJI Osmo Mobile FAQs

 

Is the Osmo Mobile able to hold any phone?

It supports smartphones from 58.6mm-84.8mm (width) and up to 8.4mm (thickness). This covers most phones currently available, including the iPhone SE, iPhone 6s Plus and Android phones of a similar size. Please Note: Compatibility might be affected by accessories attached to your phone and side button layout should also be considered.

How do I set up Osmo Mobile?

Before powering up the Osmo mobile gimbal, insert the battery and connect the unit to a power source using the included charging cable. Then, turn on the unit and pair it with your mobile device. Instructions will be shown in your DJI GO app which will guide you through the registration and activation process.

What hardware requirements does my mobile need to meet?

Bluetooth 4.0 is a minimum requirement. Though this has become a standard feature on current devices, please check compatibility.

Can I use ActiveTrack in any operation mode?

ActiveTrack is available in all modes except Portrait Mode. When shooting in this setting, subjects are more likely to move out of the frame, leaving no time for orientation adjustments.

Is ActiveTrack compatible with all devices?

No. It isn't compatible with older phones such as the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5, check the specifications for more information.

Can I add an external microphone?

No. The recording of sound is handled by your device. 

Are the controls and trigger the same as the original Osmo?

Yes. It uses the same handle design as the Osmo. The only difference is that tapping the trigger three times doesn't rotate the phone. Instead, it switches from the front camera to the rear camera.

Can I zoom with the Osmo Mobile?

Yes. Hold the trigger and move the joystick upward or downward to control the digital zoom. Please Note: Image quality will be affected as you zoom.

Can I replace the gimbal with another Zenmuse model?

The Osmo Mobile is sold as a complete unit, the gimbal is non-detachable.

Can I control camera settings from my smartphone?

Yes. DJI GO gives you control of Shutter Speed, ISO and White Balance from your phone. Please Note: This function is only supported on iOS devices.

Can I record at the resolution I have set inside the DJI Go app?

The DJI GO app automatically selects the optimal video resolution based on the performance and specs of your phone. If you want to manually change video resolution or ratio, you can access 'Camera Settings' in DJI GO. Max video resolution and photo size are limited by the hardware specs (i.e. the iPhone 6s can shoot video at 4K resolution while iPhone 6 can only shoot FHD video.)

Can I broadcast live videos through a third-party video platform? How?

Yes. Go to 'Settings', select 'Live Broadcast Platform' and choose 'Custom'; then follow the instructions. Please Note: Live Broadcasting is not available on Android devices.

What is the difference between Walk Mode and Sports Mode?

The main difference is the gimbal’s tracking speed. In Sports Mode, the gimbal follows movement closely, while in Walk Mode, it tracks moves more slowly.

Can I use my DJI Osmo Mobile with a GoPro?

There are some third party accessories that will let you use a GoPro with the Osmo Mobile, but we highly discourage it. DJI don't officially support it and it could cause problems with warranty.

What is the DJI Osmo Mobile's Weight Limit?

There isn't actually an official limit on the weight the DJI Osmo Mobile can successfully stabilise. However, we'd recommend just using your phone without any extra lenses or accessories for the best results. Any device over 250g is likely to start causing issues.

Should I use Tripod Mode when shooting timelapses?

Yes. However, with hyperlapses, Tripod Mode should be turned off.

How many points can I set when shooting motion timelapses?

5.

What is Pitch Lock Mode?

The shooting direction of the phone camera will not be affected by the movement of your arms.

What Battery does the DJI Osmo Mobile use? How long does it take to charge and how long does it last?

This device uses the same battery as the original Osmo (980 mAh). A full charge requires 3 hours, and battery life can vary between 3 and 4.5 hours depending on the extent of usage.

Is this compatible with Osmo’s High Capacity Battery and External Battery Extender?

Yes.

Does the Osmo Mobile connect to devices via Wi-Fi?

No. It connects via Bluetooth.

How do I know which device is mine when multiple Osmos are present?

Every Osmo has a unique serial number (located on the left of the phone holder). You can also change the name of your device through the DJI GO app.

Are the DJI Osmo Mobile Accessories different from the standard DJI Osmo accessory range?

The Mobile has the same interchangeable mount as the Osmo meaning that a range of accessories are compatible. We recommend the Osmo Base or the Extension Rod with the Tripod for longer exposures or Motion Timelapses.

Can I attach an external lens to my device when using Osmo Mobile?

Yes. However, external lenses may affect the balance of the gimbal.
