About the DJI Zenmuse Z3

Featuring a 7x zoom (with its 3.5x optical zoom and 2x digital zoom combined) which doesn’t sacrifice quality, the Z3 allows you to change perspectives on the fly. This functionality is controlled via a device compatible with the DJI GO app. To ensure the maximum level of stability, DJI’s Z3 is equipped with a tailor-made ‘Reaction Wheel’ on the yaw control, allowing for precise movements to be carried out; even when fully zoomed in. This new addition to DJI’s Zenmuse gimbal range includes the same Sony 1/2.3” sensor currently available in both the Inspire 1 and Phantom 4. This means it is able to take 4K footage at 30fps and capture photos at 12MP. heliguy™ can confirm that the Zenmuse Z3 is compatible with the Inspire 1, Matrice 100 and Matrice 600, popular choices for commercial drone pilots. Running the DJI Lightbridge and Lightbridge 2 video transmission, the Z3 can send a live, high definition feed up to 5km. As you would expect from the compatible drones, the DJI Zenmuse Z3 is being targeted towards a range of industrial applications as well as aerial filmmaking. This is no surprise as the Z3’s ability to offer a closer look without having to fly your aircraft any nearer to the subject is perfectly suited to these use cases. Our Thoughts

I was lucky enough to get some hands-on time with alongside Heliguy's technicians and can attest to just how intuitive the Z3 really is. Operated seamlessly via the DJI GO app and a remote controller, getting crisp 4K zoom shots is simple. Whether you're maxing out its laudable 7x zoom capability or simply filming a flight, the Sony 1/2.3” sensor ensures that the quality is exceptional. We carried out our tests with a DJI Inspire 1. The Zenmuse Z3 was easy to attach and provided an excellent addition to the impressive aircraft and it was immediately clear how valuable DJI's new zoom camera will prove to be in a range of commercial applications.
