What is a drone Operator ID?

A drone Operator ID is a registration number for the person or organisation responsible for the drone. The operator manages safety, maintenance, and compliance — and must label the ID on each drone they own.

Until the end of 2025, an Operator ID is required for:

  • Drones below 250g - not a toy - with a camera,

  • Drones weighing 250g to 25kg.

From the start of 2026, an Operator ID is required for:

  • Drones weighing 250g to 25kg.

  • Drones weighing 100g to 250g, with a camera.

  • UK class-marked drones: UK0 (with a camera), UK1, UK2, UK3, and UK4.
