Showcasing aerial-ground fusion for Network Rail inspections

Detailed point cloud, created merging drone and ground survey data collected with the XGRIDS L2 Pro scanner, shows benefits for infrastructure inspection.

One scanner. Two capture methods. One merged, detailed point cloud.

Aerial–ground fusion in action: Combining drone and handheld data from the XGRIDS L2 Pro for critical infrastructure inspection.

Great to collaborate with Network Rail to showcase the versatility of this scanner.

The aerial survey was completed using the DJI M350 RTK with the XGRIDS L2 Pro Drone Mounting Bracket.

The datasets were merged using Manual Registration in XGRIDS LixelStudio (free software with L2 Pro), which aligns different point clouds based on corresponding point relationships.

Ken Durling, Asset Engineer at Network Rail, said he was impressed with the data and could see its value for infrastructure inspection.

The video flythrough was created in NUBIGON Inc.
