Meet the DJI Microphones
The DJI Mic 3 sets a new standard in audio recording, delivering clearer sound and a more streamlined editing process, with features like integrated timecode for precise audio-video synchronisation.

DJI Mic 3
The Mic Mini is ideal for those prioritising portability and comfort over advanced functionality, as it’s the smallest model, weighing just 10g.
While the Mic 2 doesn't offer the advanced features of the Mic 3 or ultra-light frame of the Mic Mini, it remains a reliable choice for everyday recording.
All three mics come with a transmitter, receiver, and charging case. You can purchase them individually or as a complete set with additional accessories.

Audio performance
When it comes to audio features, the Mic 3 is the clear winner. It offers the most advanced controls in the range, including adaptive gain control for balanced volume and a choice of three voice tones to suit your recording style.
How do these features work?
Adaptive gain control automatically adjusts recording levels to maintain clear and balanced sound, no matter the environment. It includes two modes:
Automatic: Helps prevent audio clipping caused by sudden loud sounds, making it ideal for outdoor or unpredictable environments like sports events.
Dynamic: Adjusts gain more subtly in response to changes in volume, maintaining consistent loudness — perfect for quiet indoor settings such as studios.
This feature reduces the need for manual adjustments and helps ensure clean, professional-sounding audio straight from the mic.
Complementing this is a set of three voice tone pre-sets, designed to suit different vocal styles:
Regular: A clean, natural, and balanced tone for everyday use.
Rich: Emphasises low frequencies for a fuller, more powerful sound.
Bright: Accentuates the highs for added clarity and presence.
Together, these features give creators greater control and flexibility straight out of the box.
The Mic 3 and Mic Mini both support two-level active noise cancelling, letting you tailor background reduction to your environment.
Basic: The Basic level is ideal for quiet indoor settings, reducing fan, air conditioning, and reverb noises while preserving vocal clarity.
Strong: The Strong level excels in noisy environments, significantly cutting ambient noise for clearer vocals.
The Mic 2 is equipped with active noise cancelling, which reduces unwanted background sounds during recording for clearer vocal capture. It works by analysing ambient noise and generating an inverse sound wave to cancel it out, allowing the mic to focus on the desired audio source, typically the user's voice.
Additionally, for both the Mic 3 and Mic 2, attaching the dedicated windscreen to the transmitter helps reduce wind and background noise, resulting in crisp, clear audio even in windy or noisy environments. This is especially useful for live streaming, vlogging, and similar use cases.

Recording and workflow features
The DJI Mic 3 offers significant upgrades for creators who need more from their audio setup.
Its receiver can connect with up to four transmitters at once, allowing you to capture multiple audio sources simultaneously. The Mic 3 can also sync with up to seven additional receivers, making it ideal for group interviews, panel discussions, or multi-camera productions.
This setup ensures consistent, high-quality audio across all devices and helps streamline the editing process.
In comparison, both the Mic 2 and Mic Mini support only two transmitters and one receiver. While this is perfectly suitable for basic two-person setups, it doesn’t offer the same flexibility for larger or more complex productions.
Another standout feature of the Mic 3 is its four-channel output. When paired with compatible Sony cameras or supported software, the receiver can operate in Quadraphonic mode to deliver four independent audio tracks.
This allows for clean separation of each source, giving you more control and freedom in post-production. It’s especially useful for multi-speaker interviews, podcast recordings, or projects with several audio inputs.
The Mic 2 and Mic Mini are limited to two-channel output. While adequate for simpler setups, they don’t offer the same level of track separation or post-editing flexibility as the Mic 3.
Transmission range is another area where the models differ.
The Mic 3 uses dual-band transmission (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) with automatic frequency hopping, providing a reliable range of up to 400 metres. The Mic Mini matches this range in open conditions, while the Mic 2 offers a solid 250 metres — more than enough for most everyday recording scenarios.
The Mic 3 also supports advanced internal recording, offering 32-bit float files, dual-file backup, and built-in timecode. These features provide a wide dynamic range and allow for frame-accurate audio-video synchronisation, speeding up post-production workflows.
The Mic 2 also records in 32-bit float with up to 14 hours of storage but lacks timecode support, and the Mic Mini does not include internal recording or timecode, keeping the design focused on portability and simplicity.
Exporting and editing
The DJI Mic 3 is built for efficient post-production workflows. One of its key features is built-in timecode support.
The Mic 3 transmitter embeds timecode data during internal recording, while the receiver supports both timecode input and output.
With less than one frame of drift over 24 hours, this enables precise audio-video synchronisation — particularly useful for multi-camera setups. It removes the need for manual syncing, saving time and improving accuracy during editing.
In contrast, neither the Mic 2 nor the Mic Mini includes timecode functionality. While both provide dependable audio capture, users working with multi-cam content will need to sync audio manually, which can slow down the editing process.
File export is another area where the Mic 3 simplifies workflow. Both transmitters can be connected to a computer or smartphone using the USB-C data cable and the charging case, allowing you to transfer all internally recorded files quickly and easily.
The Mic 2 also supports USB file transfer, but it doesn’t offer the same streamlined dual-transmitter export process.
The Mic Mini, designed with minimalism in mind, doesn’t support internal recording or file export, as it captures audio directly through the receiver.
For content creators managing complex productions, the DJI Mic 3’s timecode integration and simple export process provide a clear advantage over the Mic 2 and Mic Mini.
Accessories
Each DJI Mic comes with its own set of accessories, designed to support different workflows.
The Mic Mini focuses on portability with essential add-ons, while the Mic 2 and original DJI Mic offer more advanced kits.
