DJI Terra Update: Change the Weather, Add Objects, and More with Twinmotion
Terra has a new format in 3D Model Reconstruction, enabling users to make their assets more lifelike
DJI Terra has received an exciting update, allowing users to export FBX files from 3D Model Reconstruction and import them into software such as Twinmotion, Unreal Engine 5, Autodesk Maya, and Blender to add greater depth and realism to their scenes.
The Heliguy Survey Team tested this new feature using our photogrammetry asset of Ryhope, bringing it to life with changing seasons.
Alex Williams, Technical Geospatial Specialist at Heliguy, said:
“The DJI Terra update opens up new avenues for using photogrammetry models in visualisation and 3D experiences.”
Unlike OBJ files, FBX files support animation and rigging, making them ideal for creating dynamic, high-quality 3D scenes.
Twinmotion takes your raw 3D data and lets you enhance it further by adding objects such as vehicles and adjusting the weather — even pulling real meteorological data from the date and location of your scene.
This software enablers Terra users to better bring your scenes to life, it's ideal for:
Delivering presentations
Urban planning
Landscape design
To get started, upload your photogrammetry asset of the real environment where your building or site will be located.
It’s a versatile workflow — you can use your photogrammetry asset as a backdrop and build the new scene within it, or upload a drawing of your site to recreate the surrounding area in the software.
Uploading your site drawings also adds a more immersive element, allowing you to navigate through internal structures such as halls and rooms for a detailed virtual walkthrough.
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how we did it with Twinmotion:
Open Twinmotion
Select your scene
Under ‘Ambiance’, adjust the weather
Click on ‘Library’ to choose objects and elements to add
