Hybrid 3DGS scan of historic London site
Gaussian Splat of a Grade II-listed pumping station. The reality capture model was created with the XGRIDS L2 Pro handheld scanner and DJI M4E drone.
This hybrid Gaussian Splat merges drone and handheld scan data - created as part of a demonstration to test this workflow for enhancing VFX and virtual production pipelines.
We collaborated with London-based studio Visualskies for the proof-of-concept, mapping the Grade II-listed pumping station at King George V Reservoir, in Enfield.
The 3DGS was created using the XGRIDS Lixel L2 Pro handheld scanner and DJI Matrice 4E drone. The data was processed in XGRIDS Lixel CyberColor. The video flythrough was created using NUBIGON.
Visualskies says the benefits of 3DGS for the film and gaming industry include a more efficient pipeline for previs, location scouting, and set builds; reduced processing times; and high-fidelity outputs ready for use in 3D creation tool, Unreal Engine.
