Aerial SLAM LiDAR scanning with the XGRIDS L2 Pro drone mount
Watch the XGRIDS L2 Pro drone mount in action as it captures true-colour, centimetre-accurate LiDAR data with the DJI M350 RTK during aerial surveys.
The XGRIDS L2 Pro drone mounting bracket extends SLAM-based LiDAR surveys from the ground to the air - transforming this handheld scanner into a flexible aerial mapping tool.
Watch how it generates a vivid, true-colour point cloud during flight in this field demonstration by the Heliguy survey team:
Seamlessly integrating with the DJI M350 RTK and M300 RTK, the mounting bracket unlocks new data-collection possibilities with the L2 Pro — combining LiDAR accuracy with drone mobility for faster, more flexible surveying.

The system enables:
Centimetre-level accuracy.
True-colour point clouds.
Compatibility with 16 and 32-channel L2 Pro configurations.
Fully-georeferenced LiDAR data via the aircraft’s RTK.
The L2 Pro can also be vehicle-mounted via the dedicated vehicle mount.
Key benefits of the XGRIDS L2 Pro Drone Mounting Bracket
Faster, wider coverage: Mounting the L2 Pro to a drone enables rapid data capture over large or complex sites — mapping areas in minutes that would take hours on foot.
Improved accuracy and consistency: The aerial perspective reduces occlusion and, when paired with the drone’s RTK, delivers fully georeferenced, centimetre-level data.
Enhanced versatility: Use one LiDAR system for handheld, vehicle-mounted, or aerial workflows — ideal for integrating close-range and wide-area scans.
True-colour point clouds: Capture vivid, realistic LiDAR datasets that combine precision geometry with high-quality colour information.
Cost-effective scalability: Extend the capability of your existing handheld L2 Pro without investing in a separate aerial LiDAR system.

Expert insight
The point cloud was collected during a field test conducted by the Heliguy in-house survey team. We'll be doing further tests in the coming weeks.

Richard Dunlop, Head of Geospatial at Heliguy, said: "The XGRIDS drone mounting bracket opens new possibilities for the L2 Pro scanner.
"The scanner is a robust handheld scanning tool, and the drone mount increases its versatility by enabling surveyors to streamline aerial data capture. The L2 Pro can also be mounted to a vehicle.
"We were impressed with the quality and density of the point cloud - and the fact that the LiDAR data is fully georeferenced via the drone's RTK is a major benefit."
Beyond LiDAR: High-fidelity 3DGS models
When used as a handheld scanner, the L2 Pro can also generate high-fidelity 3DGS (Gaussian Splatting) models - providing exceptional visual realism and dimensional accuracy.
