DJI Mavic 4 Pro Infinity Gimbal: Roll Control Setup and Use Guide

How to set up and control the Infinity Gimbal roll on the DJI Mavic 4 Pro for smoother, more dynamic camera movements.

This support guide covers:

  • What the Infinity Gimbal roll function is and how it works

  • How to set up roll control using custom button settings in DJI Fly

  • Default controls and how to customise button assignments

  • Using gimbal roll with QuickShots, Waypoints, FocusTrack, and Timelapse

  • Flight behaviour considerations and gimbal limitations in certain modes

This guide explains how to set up and use the roll control feature on the DJI Mavic 4 Pro’s Infinity Gimbal. It covers button customisation, supported flight modes, and tips for smooth operation.

Follow these steps to get more creative and flexible camera angles during flight.

What Is Gimbal Roll Control?

The Infinity Gimbal supports roll axis rotation, allowing you to adjust the camera’s angle during flight. This enables more dynamic and flexible camera movements, especially during advanced shooting modes.

Setting Up Roll Control

  • Launch the DJI Fly app.

  • Go to Control > Button Customisation.

  • By default, the C1 button + right dial combination controls gimbal roll.

  • You can reassign gimbal roll to other custom buttons if preferred.

Using Gimbal Roll in Intelligent Flight Modes

Roll control works in several shooting modes, including:

  • QuickShots

  • Waypoints

  • FocusTrack

  • Timelapse

These features can be combined with gimbal roll to create smooth, cinematic movements.

For example: In Hyperlapse mode:

  • Adjust the roll angle manually in Free Timelapse.

  • Set the roll angle range in CourseLock and Waypoint Timelapse for more creative effects.

Important Considerations

  • In portrait mode, yaw axis rotation is limited. This restricts controllable movement and affects flight attitude and braking distance.

  • Enable Gimbal Tilt Angle Expansion in Portrait to extend the rotation range.

  • Flying with strong pitch changes (e.g. fast forward/backward movement) can reduce the gimbal's roll range.

  • When shooting directly downward (90°): The aircraft automatically adjusts flight attitude and speed to prevent the aircraft body from entering the frame.

Summary

You’ve learned how to set up and control the roll axis on the DJI Mavic 4 Pro’s Infinity Gimbal. From assigning custom buttons to using roll in intelligent flight modes like Timelapse and FocusTrack, these steps help you unlock smoother and more creative camera movements.

Keep in mind flight behaviour limits and gimbal range adjustments for best results.
