How To Use Object Tracking On DJI Mini 4 Pro

This step-by-step guide will help you use the FocusTrack feature on the DJI Mini 4 Pro to capture dynamic footage. FocusTrack includes Spotlight, ActiveTrack, and Point of Interest (POI), each designed for different creative applications.

What is FocusTrack on the DJI Mini 4 Pro?

  • Spotlight: Keeps the gimbal camera locked on the subject while allowing you to manually control the flight.

  • ActiveTrack: The aircraft automatically follows a moving subject at a set distance and altitude.

  • Point of Interest (POI): Enables the aircraft to circle around a subject with a customisable radius and speed.

Before enabling FocusTrack:

  • Ensure the flight environment is open, unobstructed, and well-lit.

  • Drag-select the subject in the camera view or enable

    in Control settings and tap the green icon to lock the subject.

Using Spotlight on the DJI Mini 4 Pro

  • Enter FocusTrack: Spotlight mode activates by default.

  • Start Shooting: Press the Shutter/Record button on the remote controller or the screen.

  • Manual Flight Control:

    • Use the throttle stick to adjust altitude.

    • Use the pitch stick to change distance from the subject.

    • Use the roll stick to circle the subject.

Using ActiveTrack

Tracking Modes:

Steps for ActiveTrack (Trace Mode):

  1. Enter Control Settings in the app and select FocusTrack Settings.

  2. Choose Person as the subject and configure parameters.

  3. Drag-select the subject or tap the green icon in the camera view to lock it.

  4. Tap ActiveTrack and select Trace.

  5. Tap GO to begin automatic tracking.

  6. Press the Shutter/Record button to start capturing footage.

Tracking Features:

  • A trace wheel will appear in the app. Use it to adjust the tracking direction or set a flight route.

  • The aircraft will follow the designated route automatically.

Manual Override: During auto-tracking, you can use the control sticks to adjust the aircraft manually.

Using POI (Point of Interest)

  1. After selecting the tracking subject, tap POI.

  2. Set the flight direction and speed.

  3. Tap GO to calculate the radius and start circling the subject at the current altitude.

How to Exit FocusTrack

  • In POI or ActiveTrack: Press the Flight Pause button on the remote controller or tap Stop on the screen to return to Spotlight mode.

  • In Spotlight: Press the Flight Pause button on the remote controller to fully exit FocusTrack.
