DJI Zenmuse L3 installation and first use guide

A clear guide to installing, activating and using the Zenmuse L3 on the DJI Matrice 400.

This guide explains how to install, activate and safely use the DJI Zenmuse L3 payload with the Matrice 400 for the first time.

Replace the Matrice 400 gimbal connector module with the connector designed for the Zenmuse L3.
Remove the original connector, then connect the Type-C port on the L3 mount to the E1 port on the Matrice 400.
Tighten all screws to ensure the module is securely attached.
Open the Zenmuse L3 storage case, remove the payload and take off the port protector.
Insert the included DJI CFe card into the card slot.
Align the lock ring on the payload with the card slot on the gimbal connector.
Match the unlock icon with the red mark, gently push upward, then rotate the knob counterclockwise until the lock icon aligns with the red mark.
Remove the lens protective cover.
Power on the aircraft and remote controller.
Make sure the controller is connected to the internet.
Open DJI Pilot 2. The activation screen will appear automatically.
Authorise the required activation information and tap Next.
Select your industry, confirm your account details and tap Activate.
To use a different account, tap the switch icon.

After activation, tap Enter Camera View.

Important:

Avoid pointing the Zenmuse L3 camera at its radar window during take-off to prevent damage.

During data collection, keep the L3 RGB lens facing downward. The FPV view helps maintain situational awareness and improves flight safety.

Power off the aircraft and remote controller.
Press and hold the unlock button on the side of the gimbal connector.
Rotate the L3 connector knob clockwise to the unlock position.
Push down, then slide the connector toward the aircraft nose to remove the payload.
Reattach the lens protective cover.
Place the payload in its storage case or in the Matrice 400 case.
