LiDAR surveys for critical asset inspection

Point cloud model showcasing how drone and handheld LiDAR data can be fused together to benefit infrastructure condition monitoring.

This model fuses drone LiDAR and handheld scanner data to facilitate the external and internal inspection of a silo.

The data was collected by our in-house geospatial team during a client demonstration to showcase the benefits of utilising LiDAR to capture the finer details of an asset during a critical infrastructure survey.

The team flew the DJI M350 RTK with DJI Zenmuse L2 sensor for the external survey, before using the XGRIDS Lixel L2 (16 channel) handheld scanner to capture the internal data. Both solutions create true-colour point clouds.

DJI Terra and XGRIDS Lixel Studio were used to process the respective point clouds, which were then manually aligned in CloudCompare. The subsequent fly-through was created through NUBIGON.
