DJI RC-N2 - requires separate mobile device
Mini by name, mini by nature. The DJI Mini 4 Pro is tiny - and this has several key advantages.
Weighing in at less than 249g, this ultra-light, foldable drone is the perfect travel companion, ideal for capturing content on the go.
Its streamlined frame also places it in the safest weight category.
As such, it is regulation-friendly! In the UK, the DJI Mini 4 Pro can be flown in the Open category's A1 subcategory. This enables flights over uninvolved people, but not over crowds - affording great freedom and operational flexibility.
And, because it meets the A1 subcategory criteria, pilots do not need to undertake the UK CAA's drone training - the A2 CofC or GVC - or obtain a Flyer ID under DMARES - although this recommended to promote safe flying. Find out more in our UK drone laws blog.
It makes the Mini 4 Pro a great entry-level drone, for pilots flying recreationally or commercially.
2: Upgraded Camera
The DJI Mini 4 Pro has an upgraded camera system compared to its predecessors - enabling it to capture stunning shots, like this.
It is powered by a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor featuring Dual Native ISO Fusion, f/1.7 aperture, and 2.4μm 4-in-1 pixels.
Some of the key camera features are outlined below.
|4K/60fps HDR Video||Preserve the natural wonder of any moment. 4K/60fps HDR lets you share the nuances of sunset or sunrise in true-to-life quality. Enjoy high dynamic range, even at high frame rates.|
|Slo-Mo 4K/100fps||Immerse the audience in every frame. High-resolution improves video clarity, while the high frame rate facilitates smoother videos.|
|Night Shots||Mini 4 Pro supports 4K/30fps Night Shots, allowing direct output of stunning night-time footage. The improved noise reduction algorithm of Mini 4 Pro's Night Shots video effectively suppresses noise and facilitates clearer, cleaner footage in low-light conditions.|
|True Vertical Shooting||Rotating gimbal enables vertical recording optimised for social media and smartphone playback.
Shoot vertical videos that spread the entire screen on social media without cropping and retain the original image quality.
Vertical shooting enables users to better capture vertical scenes, such as skyscrapers and waterfalls.
|Large-Angle Tilt||Achieve ultra-smooth camera motion with a 60° max tilt angle, unlocking greater cinematic potential and more creative possibilities.|
|Next-gen SmartPhoto||Preserve every intricate detail with 48MP RAW and next-gen SmartPhoto (supported with 12MP photos) which combines HDR imaging, scene recognition, and more for images that pop.
This generation of SmartPhoto selects different stack methods like HDR/Hyperlight to adjust and optimise parameters specifically for the scene to obtain photos with higher dynamic range (elevated up to 5 stops) and achieve the effect of simulated long exposure.
The photodynamic range is targeted to be the same as that of the iPhone 14 Pro.
|Digital Zoom||Video: - 4K: up to 2x; 1080p - up to 4x. Photo: 12 MP - up to 2x.
This provides more flexibility and increases safety as the drone can fly further from obstacles.
3: 10-bit D-Log M And HLG
One of the most exciting features of the Mini 4 Pro is the ability to utilise 10-bit D-Log M and HLG colour profiling.
10-bit D-Log M and HLG help capture a stunning range of colours and provide more flexibility while editing and sharing.
10-bit D-Log M
Record in 10-bit D-Log M and capture more than one billion colours and retain highlight and shadow details.
The natural colour gradations and delicate full-spectrum details mean Mini 4 Pro unlocks pro-level and more flexible post-production control and expert-level creative editing flexibility.
Creators often use Log colour modes during shooting. This feature helps retain more image details to improve image quality. Moreover, the colour grading of D-Log M is easier than that of D-Log.
No matter where you publish your content, HLG ensures the natural colours and brightness remain true-to-life without adjustment or format conversion due to its high dynamic range.
Compared with D-Log or RAW, HLG can retain a high dynamic range while reducing operating difficulty.
Mainstream editing software can automatically convert HLG to standard colours, based on which creators can directly perform colour grading for more convenient post-production.
4: Enhanced Safety Features
Safety is everything when it comes to drone flights, and the Mini 4 Pro duly delivers.
We've already mentioned its lightweight frame, but the Mini 4 Pro goes further, packed with features to ensure reliability and safety.
Omnidirectional Vision Sensing
Mini 4 Pro is the first sub-249g drone to feature omnidirectional vision sensing.
Equipped with four fisheye vision sensors, downward binocular vision sensors, a 3D ToF sensor, and an auxiliary light, the drone can detect obstacles from all angles.
As a caveat, omnidirectional obstacle sensing cannot identify small objects, like tree branches and electric wires, and is unavailable at night.
Nevertheless, the drone's vision sensing capabilities reduce the risk of hitting obstacles: Great for any pilot, but especially for beginners.
Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems (APAS)
APAS 5.0 ensures additional safety by enabling automatic braking and bypassing during flight.
It can quickly identify and smoothly bypass obstacles in all directions (forward/backward/upward/downward/left/right) during flight.
Bottom Auxiliary Light
The Mini 4 Pro's bottom auxiliary light increases stability while hovering at low altitudes at night.
It reduces the likelihood of crashing the drone on uneven ground or without seeing the ground clearly enough.
5: Flagship DJI O4 Video Transmission
DJI Mini 4 Pro is equipped with DJI's flagship O4 video transmission.
This provides a live view quality up to 1080p/60fps and a maximum video transmission distance of 10km (CE), or a whopping 20km (FCC).
The robustness of O4 video transmission provides key benefits:
- In urban environments with substantial signal interference, Mini 4 Pro can deliver more stable signals to reduce stuttering and frame drops during video transmission compared to the previous generation. This provides a better operating experience when filming around a building, at low altitudes, or through different obstructions.
- The 60fps video transmission frame rate enables a smoother live view. The lower latency delivers a faster and more responsive operation experience.
To support the O4 transmission system, the Mini 4 Pro is compatible with the DJI RC 2 and DJI RC-N2: Two controllers which were launched alongside the DJI Air 3 in July 2023.
The DJI RC 2 is a next-gen camera-drone remote controller with 5.5-inch FHD display...
...while the RC-N2 is a controller which integrates with a separate mobile device.
The table below provides an overview of some of the key specs of both controllers.
|Number of antennas||4 antennas (2T4R)||2 antennas (2T2R)|
|Operating Time||3 hours||Not charging mobile device: 6 hours
Charging mobile device: 3.5 hours
|Charging Time||1.5 hours||2.5 hours|

Waypoint flight is a great feature on the Mini 4 Pro, with its automatic route functionality providing route repeatability.
It can be utilised for a range of operations, including cinematic content capture, as well as commercial missions, such as inspection or visual surveys.
Pre-set several points and the drone will automatically fly along them. The drone can also perform pre-set and highly-customisable actions during the flight.
Save flight routes for repeated flights.
7: Advanced Tracking
Mini 4 Pro features ActiveTrack 360°, with enhanced subject tracking capabilities. It also has Spotlight and Point of Interest.
Using the upgraded ActiveTrack, users can set the drone to follow a certain flight route during the tracking process (the previous version only supported fixing in a certain direction), achieving freer and more diverse tracking routes.
In scenarios like biking/roaming/skateboarding/car tracking, this provides more stable tracking routes and customisable flight routes to achieve tracking effects like circling and spiralling.
Meanwhile, Spotlight and Point of Interest enable the following:
- Spotlight: Drone does not fly automatically, but the camera remains locked on the subject while the user manually controls the flight.
- Point of Interest: Drone tracks the subject in a circle based on the set radius and flight speed.
8: Intelligent Flight Features
Beyond the Mini 4 Pro's advanced tracking capabilities and waypoints, the drone has a suite of other intelligent flight features, improving flight safety and ease.
Cruise Control can reduce operation fatigue during long-distance, steady-state flight and further reduce camera shake with smoother camera movement.
Engage Cruise Control by pressing the shortcut button to lock the speed (based on how hard you are pushing the control stick at that moment). Once locked, there is no need to continue pushing the sticks; the locked movement will continue.
During the long-distance flight, this locks the speed/direction without requiring continued control stick movement or usage. The speed/direction can be manually adjusted at any time.
Advanced Return To Home
Mini 4 Pro can automatically plan a safe flight route back to its home point and easily bypass obstacles. Additionally, the AR RTH route feature facilitates more confident control during return flights.
During the flight, the drone can scan its surroundings, implement internal mapping, and plan the optimal route back to its home point, including power-saving RTH and original RTH.
It is faster, more power-efficient, and safer when the battery level is low. Although, note that this feature is unavailable when the vision-sensing system is disabled.
It also avoids the problem that the drone stops flying when encountering Altitude Zones during Straight Line RTH.
9: Streamlined Content Creation
Mini 4 Pro is stacked with intelligent shooting options to simplify the aerial content-creation process - setting up stunning visuals and streamlining the edition process.
|Hyperlapse||Provides Free, Waypoint, Circle, and Course Lock modes with unlimited shooting time, and supports compositing while shooting.
Feature upgrades (compared with the previous generation):
1. Time limit is cancelled so that users can keep shooting.
2. Supports compositing while shooting, which greatly shortens the output time.
|MasterShots||Delivers dynamic camera movement templates tailored for portrait, close-up, and long-range shots, ensuring you nail every shot.
MasterShots automatically plans a flight route and performs camera movements to generate cinematic footage - perfect for beginners.
|QuickShots||Provides Dronie, Circle, Helix, Rocket, Boomerang, and Asteroid modes for more stylish results and more streamlined content creation.|
|Panorama||Supports shooting 180°, Wide Angle, Vertical, and Sphere panoramic photos to capture magnificent landscapes.
Panorama photos in 180°/Sphere mode are up to 100 MP. Although the resolution of Wide Angle/Vertical mode does not reach 100 MP, it has also been greatly improved when compared with Mini 3 Pro.
By incorporating a tilt shooting angle into the lens configuration, panorama photos can enhance sky effects greatly. Users do not need to manually capture the sky in the tilt angle to complete the panorama.
|QuickTransfer||Quickly transfer photos and videos to your smartphone without linking the remote controller. Your creations will be instantly ready to share.
Supports Wi-Fi downloading at a faster download speed (max 30 MB/s). You can enable Wi-Fi downloading without connecting to the remote controller.
Easy and fast, put a powered-on drone close to your phone to pair up.
This reduces the waiting time when users download photos/videos.
|LightCut App||LightCut supports wireless connection and intelligent recognition of composition and flight routes, so you can edit quickly and generate eye-catching videos with one tap.
By blending imported footage from ActiveTrack, MasterShots, and QuickShots, the app automatically matches sound effects and exclusive templates for quick, high-quality video production.
Plus, there is no need to download footage during the editing process, saving storage space on your smartphone.
