DJI M30 Flight Tutorial

Follow step-by-step instructions for a smooth and safe flight with your M30 drone.

This step-by-step guide will help you activate, link, and operate your DJI Matrice 30 for the first time. Follow these instructions to ensure a smooth and safe flight.

Device Activation

  1. Press the Power button once, then press and hold it for several seconds to power on the remote controller and aircraft.

  2. Open the DJI Pilot app. The activation page will appear automatically.

  3. Read the terms and conditions, authorise the use of device information, and select a usage scenario.

  4. Confirm your account activation information and tap Activate.

  5. Tap Restart Now to complete activation.

  6. Keep the aircraft and remote controller connected throughout activation.

Linking the Remote Controller

The remote controller is pre-linked to the aircraft when delivered.

To re-link manually:

  1. Tap Remote Controller Linking on the DJI Pilot app homepage.

  2. The remote controller will beep three times, and its status indicator will blink blue.

  3. Press and hold the aircraft power button for at least five seconds until the power indicator flashes.

  4. When linking is successful, the status indicators on both the remote controller and aircraft will turn solid green.

Preparing for Flight

  1. Open the safety box and remove the aircraft, TB30 batteries, and remote controller.

  2. Unfold the frame arms until the arm folding buttons pop into place.

  3. Ensure the frame arms are locked firmly.

  4. Place the aircraft on a flat, unobstructed surface.

  5. Unfold the propellers.

  6. Install the batteries and ensure the release toggles are secure.

  7. Unlock the gimbal lock.

  8. Power on the aircraft and remote controller.

  9. Open the DJI Pilot app and tap Ready to Take Off.

  10. Complete the pre-flight checklist as prompted.

  11. Adjust the remote controller antennas for optimal signal strength.

Takeoff and Landing

  1. Maintain a safe distance of at least five metres from the aircraft.

  2. Face the rear of the aircraft while operating.

  3. Start the motors by pushing both control sticks inward or outward.

  4. When the propellers start spinning, push the throttle stick upwards for manual takeoff.

Flight Controls (Mode 2):

  • Left stick – Controls altitude and nose direction.

  • Right stick – Controls forward, backward, left, and right movement.

  • Flight Pause Button – Stops the aircraft and makes it hover.

  • RTH Button – Press and hold to activate Smart Return-to-Home (RTH).

Camera and Video Settings

  1. View flight data such as altitude, speed, and distance on the video transmission screen.

  2. Tap the Photo/Record button to switch between photo and video mode.

  3. Use the Playback button to view and download footage.

  4. Adjust the gimbal pitch and yaw using the left and right dials on the remote controller.

  5. Tap L1/L2 to switch between infrared, zoom, and wide-angle cameras.

  6. Tap R1/R2 to zoom in and out.

  7. Double-tap a target point to automatically align the gimbal and camera.

Laser Ranging

  1. Tap the Laser Ranging icon to enable the function.

  2. Align the cross cursor with the target.

  3. View the following measurements:

    • RNG – Distance between the target and the aircraft.

    • ASL – Altitude of the target.

Camera Settings

  1. Tap the Camera Settings menu.

  2. Night mode activates automatically in low-light conditions.

  3. In Infrared mode, use:

    • Spot Meter – Measures the temperature at a selected point.

    • Area Measurement – Highlights the highest and lowest temperatures in a selected area.

    • High-Temperature Alarm – Can be configured as needed.

  4. Tap Palette and Isotherm to adjust the infrared colour palette.

Hot-Swapping Batteries

The Matrice 30 supports hot-swappable batteries, allowing replacements without powering off the aircraft.

  1. Toggle the battery switch.

  2. Remove one battery and replace it with a fully charged backup.

  3. If the battery indicator lights up, the installation is correct.

  4. Repeat for the second battery.

Powering Off and Storage

  1. Power off the aircraft.

  2. Rotate the gimbal tilt axis upwards to 90° and lock it in place.

  3. Press and hold the arm folding switch, then fold the arms and propellers.

  4. Power off the remote controller.

  5. Place the aircraft and remote controller into the safety box.

  6. Close and fasten the safety box latch.
