DJI Mavic 4 Pro: First Use Tutorial with RC 2

A step-by-step guide to setting up, activating, and flying your DJI Mavic 4 Pro for the first time.

This guide will help you get started with your DJI Mavic 4 Pro, using the RC 2. Follow the steps to unpack, activate, and fly your drone safely and correctly for the first time.

Instructions

1. Preparing the aircraft

  • Unfasten the strap and remove the gimbal protector.

  • Press the power button to activate the aircraft battery and check the battery level.

  • The aircraft has internal storage and supports a microSD card for extended storage.

  • Use the USB-C port on the aircraft for charging.

2. Unfolding and powering on

  • Unfold the arms.

  • When the right rear arm is unfolded, the aircraft powers on automatically.

  • You can also press the power button once, then press and hold it for about two seconds to turn the aircraft on.

3. Remote controller setup

  • Unfold the antennas.

  • Remove the control sticks from the storage slots and mount them.

  • Press the power button once, then press and hold for about two seconds to turn the remote controller on.

  • Follow the on-screen prompts to complete settings.

  • Connect the remote controller to Wi-Fi and set the time zone, date, and time.

  • Log in with a DJI account. New users must register before logging in.

4. Activating the aircraft

  • After logging in, tap Start to go through the function guide.

  • The aircraft must be activated through DJI Fly for first use. Internet connection is required.

  • Launch DJI Fly and follow the instructions to activate the aircraft.

  • After activation, the aircraft is automatically bound to the remote controller.

6. Firmware update

  • A prompt will appear if a firmware update is available.

  • Tap the prompt to enter the update screen and tap Update to install the latest firmware.

  • Do not power off the aircraft or exit DJI Fly during the update.

  • After updating, the aircraft powers off automatically.

7. Preparing for flight

  • Fly in an open, unobstructed area.

  • Ensure propellers and battery are securely installed.

  • Place the aircraft on level ground with the rear facing you.

  • Set the flight mode switch to Normal mode.

  • Launch DJI Fly and open System Settings > Safety.

  • Set Obstacle Avoidance Action to Bypass or Brake.

  • Set RTH height higher than the tallest nearby object.

  • Ensure the GNSS status icon is white before takeoff.

8. Takeoff and landing

Auto takeoff:

  • Tap the Takeoff icon on the left.

  • Press and hold the prompt to enable Auto Takeoff.

  • The aircraft takes off and hovers.

Auto landing:

  • Tap the Landing icon.

  • Press and hold the prompt to land and stop the motors.

Manual takeoff:

  • Push both sticks inward or outward simultaneously to start motors.

  • Gently push the left stick up to take off.

Manual landing:

  • Pull the left stick down to land.

9. Flight controls

  • Left Stick (up/down): Ascend / Descend.

  • Left Stick (left/right): Rotate aircraft.

  • Right Stick (up/down): Fly forward / backward.

  • Right Stick (left/right): Fly left / right.

  • Maintain a good signal by adjusting the controller's position relative to the aircraft.

10. Camera controls

  • Press the Focus/Shutter button halfway to auto-focus, press fully to take a photo.

  • Press the Record button once to start or stop recording.

  • Use the left dial to tilt the gimbal.

  • Use the right dial to zoom in or out.

  • Tap the camera icon in the app to switch between manual and auto modes.

  • Use the parameter menu to adjust camera settings.

  • Tap: 2.5X for medium telephoto, 6X for telephoto, 1X for wide angle.

  • Tap the portrait icon to switch to vertical shooting mode.

  • Tap the playback icon to view or download footage.

11. Return to Home (RTH)

  • Press and hold the RTH button on the controller, or

  • Tap the RTH icon in the app and hold the confirmation prompt.

  • The aircraft will fly back and land at the last recorded home point.

12. Powering off and packing up

  • Press and hold the power button for two seconds to power off both the aircraft and the remote controller.

  • Fold the arms and propellers.

  • Reinstall the gimbal protector and strap it securely.

  • Fold the antennas.

  • Unscrew and store the control sticks in the slots on the back of the controller.
