DJI Osmo Gimbal
DJI’s
Osmo has become an iconic product for DJI. Alongside the Mavic and Inspire series, the Osmo has become one of their most recognisable releases and was the first of its kind from DJI.
Offering stabilised footage at up to 4K quality, you’re guaranteed great videos, as well as 12MP stills when using the Zenmuse X3 which comes as standard with the gimbal.
It also helps that it’s highly intuitive with the full range of features available through the DJI GO app. You can access through your mobile device as it’s held in place on the side of the Osmo Handle.
There may have been a lot of updated models released in the ever-growing
Osmo series, but the
original Osmo still stacks up against the newcomers thanks to DJI’s robust engineering.
DJI Osmo Gimbal
Key Features
When considering the
Osmo, here are the most important things to keep in mind:
- 4K video at 24, 25 or 30fps and 12MP stills as standard with the DJI Zenmuse X3 camera
- Unparalleled image and video stabilisation thanks to DJI’s advanced gimbal expertise
- Packed with functionality giving you the ability to shoot long exposures and panoramas with ease
- Controlling the Osmo is easy using your mobile device and the DJI GO app
- The Osmo Handle is also compatible with the X5 and X5R to upgrade it to a PRO or RAW respectively
Target Users
The
standard Osmo model has the potential to produce professional quality imagery with its default X3 gimbal but many people are starting to look at it more for the handle itself than the standard setup.
4K video and 12MP stills are certainly not specs to be sniffed at but with more advanced cameras now compatible with the Osmo Handle, we’re finding that serious professionals are more likely to look at the PRO and RAW models.
This isn’t to say that the
Osmo doesn’t have plenty to offer. With robust stabilisation and a generous suite of features, not to mention the lower price point, this could prove to be an attractive possibility for those looking for their first handheld gimbal.
Availability
The Osmo has limited availability now in the UK. Keep an eye on our
Osmo product page and
Approved Used section to see when it is available.
DJI Osmo+ (Plus)
The
Osmo+ was released as an upgrade to the
original Osmo with a range of new features including the capability to offer up to 7x zoom. This allows for more flexibility when shooting, getting you closer to the action without the need to constantly be on the move. However, it’s worth bearing in mind that the zoom functionality performs a lot better in conjunction with a tripod.
DJI claims to have upgraded the stabilisation of the
Osmo+ but you’re unlikely to see much of an improvement from the original, which is no bad thing as its enduring popularity shows.
In addition to the full suite of features included with the
original Osmo, the Osmo+ is able to capture intelligent timelapses. The Osmo+ is a great mid-market model to the gimbal range with the ability to capture exceptional videos and images.
DJI Osmo+
Key Features
When considering the
Osmo+ (Plus), here are the most important things to bear in mind:
- Shoot 4K video at 30fps and 1080p at 100fps for smooth slow-motion and capture 12MP stills in Adobe DNG RAW
- Upgraded stabilisation technology has been developed for the Osmo+ building on the solid grounding of the original OSMO
- A shake-free (tripod recommended) 7× zoom, consisting of 3.5× optical and 2× digital lossless zoom offers a focal length of22mm to 77mm without losing its HD quality
- Controlling the Osmo+ (Plus) is easy using your mobile device and the DJI GO app
- Intuitive smart features like the motion timelapse give you the ability to create breath-taking shots with a tap of your device’s screen
Target Users
The
DJI Osmo+ (Plus) is their mid-range solution which also benefits from the ability to zoom in up to 7x, getting you even closer to your subject. The camera specs may be familiar to those who have read up on the
original Osmo but the addition of the zoom capability, as well as a number of upgraded features, make the Plus worth a look.
The Osmo+ has a range of features which make it a useful addition to a pro filmmaker’s kit as well as being accessible enough for amateurs to pick up and shoot. Enhanced long exposures and motion timelapses allow you to capture some beautiful, unique shots and this functionality is all available through DJI’s intuitive GO app.
It’s harder to pin down an exact market for the
Osmo+ as it fits neatly into both a professional and consumer niche. It all comes down to how much power you’re looking for. The zoom functionality is a great addition but you won’t be getting the same quality you can expect from the X5 and the X5R of the PRO and RAW – so it’s a case of weighing up your needs against the pertinent specifications.
Availability
The Osmo+ is available on our
product page and sometimes on the
Approved Used section of our website.

DJI Osmo Pro
Key Features
When considering the
Osmo Pro, here are the most important things to keep in mind:

- Crisp, high sensitivity image recording at an ISO range of 100-25600
- Manufactured with high-grade aluminium and magnesium alloys, the Zenmuse X5 camera has been designed to withstand frequent use on the go, a perfect match for the Osmo
Target Users
The
Osmo Pro’s target market is self-evident. The name isn’t misleading either, it’s certainly powerful enough to be an integral part of a professional videographer’s toolkit.
Fitted with the Zenmuse X5 camera, you’re going to have access to some very high-quality video and image capabilities which, when coupled with the innate functionality of the Osmo Handle itself, offers a very attractive proposition for filmmakers looking at a portable, stabilised handheld solution.
If you’re crazy about high-quality video and stills but not overly concerned with shooting in the RAW format, the
Osmo Pro bundle with the Zenmuse X5 could be just what you’re looking for.

The Osmo Pro is available through heliguy™ on its dedicated

DJI Osmo RAW
The DJI
Osmo RAW features the Zenmuse X5R camera and, as such, offers some of the best footage you’re likely to get from a handheld gimbal. Designed for use by serious professional videographers the RAW offers the same high level of stabilisation you can expect from all the models in the
Osmo range. Couple this with its capacity to shoot in Adobe DNG RAW and you’re looking at a very powerful bit of kit.
The RAW can either be purchased as part of a combo deal or, alternatively as an upgrade for the original. If you’re looking to drastically improve the video quality you’re capturing and already own an Osmo, you can add an adapter kit to the handle which allows you to add on the X5R and begin shooting like a seasoned pro.
DJI Osmo RAW
Key Features
When considering the
Osmo RAW, here are the most important things to bear in mind:
- As with the X5, you can capture 4K footage at 30fps, 2.7K at up to 30fps, and ‘Full HD’ at 60fps (when shooting in the .mp4 or .mov formats) as well as 16MP stills. However, the X5R is also capable of recording 4K videos in the RAW format at up to 30fps
- Your RAW footage will benefit greatly from the stabilisation offered by the Osmo Handle
- The X5R captures all its video content while retaining the original data, offering total control of the post-production process as every single frame can be edited after the fact as a RAW file
- You can add the DJI Focus to your Osmo RAW set-up, allowing for professional levels of focus control as you shoot
- Make the most of this impressive Micro 4/3 sensor set-up with a generous 34 minutes of shooting time
Target Users
DJI’s
Osmo RAW bundle is aimed squarely at professional filmmakers, it’s a cinema-ready handheld filmmaking system.
The X5R camera is one of the most powerful on offer from DJI and, combined with the Osmo Handle, ensures that every shot is crystal clear, shake-free and able to be used commercially.
A modular construction allows professionals compatibility between, amongst other items, the
DJI Focus and the
Osmo RAW set-up. This is something that really makes serious videographers take notice, fine-tuning stabilised footage on the go gives an extra level of control and quality.
Essentially, DJI has given filmmakers the power to customise their own tailor-made videography solution using a variety of peripherals and a range of lenses. Want a handheld stabilised gimbal that gives you professional results every time? It’s hard to beat the
DJI Osmo RAW bundle.

DJI Osmo Mobile
The consumer branch of the
Osmo series, the
DJI Osmo Mobile is the original gimbal designed to give users the ability to create shake-free footage using their Android or iOS device’s camera. It’s a more affordable model that incorporates a lot of the features that made the
original Osmo so popular.
The Osmo Mobile is available in both
silver and
black, you also have some choice in how the device itself looks – highlighting DJI’s increasing commitment to providing consumers with greater variety in their products.
If you have an original Osmo Handle, the
DJI Zenmuse M1 is available to turn the gimbal into an Osmo Mobile.
DJI Osmo Mobile
Key Features
When considering the
Osmo Mobile, here are the most important things to keep in mind:
- Four shooting modes give you the ability to really personalise your shots with a choice of Standard, Portrait, Underslung & Flashlight
- Capture smooth, high-quality footage on your mobile device without the usual shaky end result
- Available in both Black and Silver versions allowing you to shoot in style
- The wide range of camera controls rivals a professional setup and include ISO, shutter and white balance settings
- There’s no need to rush with an impressive battery life of up to 4.5 hours at your disposal

Target Users
This version of the Osmo is marketed squarely at the consumer market with adverts focusing on people filming their holidays and family events with some amateur vlogging thrown in there for good measure.
The quality of the
Osmo Mobile’s video is down to the performance of your mobile device. Whereas the Pro and RAW feature purpose-built powerhouse cameras, the Mobile has been designed to eliminate shake from the everyday videos people are already taking.
It’s a powerful tool for improving your device’s videos and offers a range of functionality such as ActiveTrack, Beautify and the ability to livestream your videos to a social network of your choice, however, it won’t be making its way into many professionals’ gear lists.
If you’re looking for an affordable handheld gimbal to give your phone’s videos that next level of quality, you can’t go wrong with the Osmo Mobile.

OSMO Mobile FAQs
FUNCTIONS
The Osmo Mobile supports smartphones measuring from 58.6mm-84.8mm width and up to 8.4mm thick. This covers most phones currently available, from the iPhone SE to the iPhone 6s Plus and Android phones of similar sizes. Please note that actual compatibility might be affected by accessories attached to your phone. Certain form factors including side button layout should also be considered.
Step 1: Activating the Intelligent Battery. Before powering on the Osmo Mobile, insert the battery into Osmo Mobile and connect the unit to a power source using the dedicated charging cable for battery activation.
Step 2: Registering your Osmo Mobile via DJI GO. Power on the unit and pair it with your mobile device. Instructions will be shown in DJI GO automatically to guide you through the registration and activation process.
Osmo Mobile utilizes Bluetooth 4.0 to communicate with phones. Though Bluetooth 4.0 has become a standard for current phones, we suggest you to check compatibility by revisiting the specs sheet.
ActiveTrack is available in all modes except Portrait Mode due to limited horizontal camera field of view (FOV) when the phone is held upright. When shooting in Portrait Mode, a subject might move out of the frame easily and leave no time for the gimbal to adjust its orientation.
No. Tracking speed cannot be set. The Osmo Mobile will adjust its movement according to the speed of the object, so you do not need to set its speed according to how you use it. The fastest it can track is the same as its Max Controllable Speed, 120°/s.
No. ActiveTrack is not compatible with certain phones (i.e. iPhone 5s and iPhone 5) due to limitations within the phones.
No. ActiveTrack is not affected by camera resolution.
DJI GO APP
Yes. You can set parameters manually in the Camera Settings menu. This function is only supported on iOS devices.
The DJI GO app will automatically select the optimal video resolution base on the performance and specs of your phone. If you want to manually change video resolution or ratio, you can access such feature via the Camera Settings menu in DJI GO. Maximum video resolution and still image size will be limited by the hardware specs, for example the iPhone 6s can shoot video at 4K resolution while iPhone 6 can only shoot FHD video.
If you are an iOS user, the app will tell you how much storage space there is for video. Unfortunately, this does not apply to Android users.
Yes. Go to Settings, Choose Live Broadcast Platform and choose the Custom option (or type in the platform’s name) then follow the on-screen instructions.
The main difference is the gimbal’s speed tracking your movements. In Sport Mode, the gimbal follows your movements closely and is suitable for shooting fast moving objects. In Walk Mode, the gimbal reduces shake generated by your hands, allowing you to get stable shots on the move.
Yes, you can choose and set slow, medium, and fast speeds in the app.
Yes. You can enable the Tripod Mode when shooting timelapse videos from a fixed angle. However, if shooting hyperlapse videos, Tripod Mode should be switched off.
To ensure optimum image quality, manual adjustment of these functions has been disabled when shooting timelapse videos.

You can use the trigger for multiple controls for both the gimbal and camera — hold it down for locking the gimbal’s direction, double tap for re-centering. Unlike other Osmo cameras, tapping the trigger three times does not rotate the phone. Instead, it switches your phone from front camera to rear camera.
