To get you flying safely on your drone journey, Heliguy.com™ have created this simple flight checklist.

In this tutorial we'll be using the DJI Mavic 2 Pro as an example drone but you can apply this checklist to any drone.

Whether you're new to drone flying or have multiple hours under your belt, it's always a great idea to follow a flight checklist.

This checklist will help keep you, your drone and those around you safe.

It is mandatory you follow drone regulations in your country. This is not a replacement.

  1. Clear flight location

Ensure that the location you are choosing to fly is relatively free from any obstacles. Things such as powerlines, constructions sights and tall buildings should be avoided at all costs. Unless you are flying under specific permission.

  2. Check the weather

It is essential you check the weather before heading out for a flight with your drone. Any sign of adverse weather conditions will disrupt your flight and may cause damage to your drone. Use a reliable weather forecasting platform such as the Met Office to get valid weather predictions.

  3. Keep visual line of sight (VLOS)

As a drone pilot it is your responsibility to keep constant visual line of sight whilst flying your drone. This means it must not pass behind objects, buildings or environment where it will disappear from your view. As a result, you reduce the risk of a crash or an unexpected collision.

  4. Monitor your altitude

Much like a commercial plane pilot you need to keep a cautious eye on your altitude. You are now in an airspace used by multiple aircraft and must be aware of your height. Checking your altitude regularly is good airmanship practise and keep those sharing your airspace safe.

5. Keep firmware updated

By updating your firmware it often fixes bugs in flight stabilisation algorithms and conducts battery management. Both of these features are pivotal to keeping your drone safely flying in the air. Additionally, firmware typically offers new features and alterations that will enhance your flying experience.

By following the above tips and tricks you'll be on your way to creating a streamline flight every time.

Master your flying menaourvers and get to grips with all the feautres your DJI offers you.
