DJI have released a new member of the Phantom 4 family, the Phantom 4 Advanced.
This quadcopter features the same 1" CMOS sensor seen on the Phantom 4 Pro and shares may of the features of the body from the original Phantom 4.
The Phantom 4 Advanced comes with an improved camera, with a 1 inch sensor, which can shoot 4K video at 60FPS.
This will help you produce high quality, stable arial video footage and burst mode stills at 14fps.
There are improved vision sensing systems too, both forward vision and downward vision obstacle avoidance.
The new titanium and magnesium alloy construction gives the Phantom 4 Advanced a more rigid airframe, while also saving weight. This makes the Phantom 4 Advanced even lighter than the original Phantom 4.
The new Phantom 4 Advanced Camera comes equipped with a 1 inch 20-megapixel CMOS sensor. This lens, custom crafted by DJI, is made up of eight individual elements in seven groups. Some of the key features include:
The DJI Phantom 4 Advanced comes with the 'FlightAutonomy' DJI vision sensing system.
All of this adds up to a system that allows the Phantom 4 Advanced Quadcopter to hover precisely in position, even when GPS isn't available. It will handle complex flights and see obstacles as far as 30 meters in front of the drone.
The Phantom 4 Advanced adds new flight modes to the DJI GO 4 app.
A new 'Draw' flight mode has been added, which is a 'brand new technology for waypoint control'.
Effectively, it allows you to draw the route you want your Phantom 4 Advanced to take, and it will follow your instructions.
This frees up your attention to focus solely on the camera and capturing the perfect image.
ActiveTrack is also available, which will help the quadcopter track fast-moving objects with ease. Simply tap the moving object in the DJI GO 4 app and follow your subject.
The Phantom 4 Advanced, as you will have read, has a new lightweight construction.
Couple this with the advanced battery management system and it adds up to a maximum flight time of 30 minutes.
The new high capacity batteries that were introduced with the Phantom 4 Pro are compatible with the Phantom 4 Advanced.
What's the difference between the Phantom 4 and the Phantom 4 Advanced?
The Phantom 4 Advanced has a much improved camera when compared with the original Phantom 4. This includes the addition of 4K video at 60fps and 20mp stills. Plus the sensor is much bigger on the Phantom 4 Advanced, giving much more detailed results.
The Advanced also has extended flight time, further transmission range and improved obstacle sensing range.
What about the differences between the Phantom 4 Pro and Phantom 4 Advanced?
The Phantom 4 Advanced inherits most of the features of the Phantom 4 Pro.
However, to help make the Advanced more affordable, it doesn't have the rear vision sensors or the two infrared sensors that feature on the Pro.
In addition, the Phantom 4 Advanced remote controller does not support the 5.8ghz frequency band.
What's the advantages of the Mechanical Shutter on the Phantom 4 Advanced Camera?
This mechanical shutter system will eliminate 'rolling shutter distortion'.
These artefacts can occur when you're capturing fast moving subjects and using an electronic shutter.
Is the Phantom 4 Advanced Controller compatible with other Phantom 4 models?
No - the Phantom 4 Advanced Controller is only for use with the Phantom 4 Advanced, it won't work with the Pro or the original Phantom 4.
