Intelligent Flight Modes
DJI Mavic Air 2 boasts a suite of intelligent shooting modes through FocusTrack to help you unleash your creativity easier than ever before. These options are:
Spotlight 2.0: Fly freely while the camera remains locked on the subject with this convenient mode. Simply select your subject and fly.
ActiveTrack 3.0: Following subjects while avoiding obstacles is smoother than ever with the latest version of DJI’s ActiveTrack technology. With better pathfinding and a faster and more accurate prediction of lost subjects, this technology keeps your subject in the centre of the frame, even if they move behind a tree.
POI 3.0: POI 3.0 improves the capabilities of POI 2.0, especially the recognition of flat surfaces. Where POI 2.0 might lose the target while tracking, this improved feature does not. POI 3.0 is now also able to dynamically track objects like people, cars, and boats.
8K Hyperlapse: The DJI Mavic Air 2 supports Hyperlapse in 8K, allowing you to warp time and space for incredible footage. Choose between various modes, select your shooting spot, and the DJI Fly app will do the rest. Please note that 8K resolution can currently only be used in Free and Waypoint modes.
QuickShots: Capture incredible content, quickly and easily, thanks to QuickShots. QuickShots includes Dronie, Circle, Helix, Rocket, Boomerang and Asteroid. With just a few taps of the button, the drone plans and flies its aerial route for a quality shot, made simple.
Enhanced Flight Safety
DJI Mavic Air 2 benefits from OcuSync 2.0, giving a video transmission distance of up to 10km and delivering a 1080p FHD resolution live stream directly from the drone's camera (FCC-compliant).
Mavic Air 2 supports 2.4/5.8GHz dual-frequency communication and automatically switches to the best channel with the lowest interference in real time. This significantly improves the aircraft's anti-interference ability in challenging environments.
To enhance flight safety, DJI Mavic Air 2 benefits from three-way directional sensing (forward, backward, and downward). The drone has an auxiliary light to improve visibility, assist with positioning, and help with a safe landing.
For an added layer of safety, DJI Mavic 2 Air has Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems (APAS) 3.0. This uses advanced mapping technology for reliable obstacle avoidance in complex scenarios.
The DJI Mavic Air 2 benefits from an impressive 34 minutes of flight time and can achieve a maximum flight speed of 68kph (in Sport mode).

DJI Fly App
The DJI Fly app makes creating flawless videos more convenient than ever. The built-in DJI Mimo app editor provides manual settings, advanced functions, and intuitive templates, allowing you to create professional compositions in seconds.
Mavic Air 2 Remote Controller
Operate your drone with a new remote controller, which benefits from a long battery life of 240 minutes. This newly-designed controller has an ergonomic design for a more comfortable grip. The new clamp makes attaching smartphones fast and easy, while integrated antennas significantly improve user experience.
Smart Controller Compatibility
A firmware update has allowed pilots to fly the Mavic Air 2 with the DJI Smart Controller to optimise their flying experience.
There are many benefits of using the Smart Controller. These include:
- Built-in 5.5-inch 1080p screen; ultra-bright display, even in direct sunlight.

Drone Laws, Licences and Training Requirements
Drone Registration
Do I need UK drone registration?
Yes, you will need to register. Visit the CAA’s DMARES website. If you have already registered and have an Operator ID, ensure this is attached to your Mavic Air 2.
Where Can I Fly?
Without taking a drone training course, you will have to fly by the rules of the Open Category’s A3 subcategory (fly far from people). This says:
- No uninvolved people present within the area of flight;
- No flight within 150m horizontally of residential, commercial, industrial, and recreational areas.
Want more freedom? Take a drone training course.
Training Options
A2 CofC
An A2 CofC allows operations in the A2 subcategory (fly near to people) of the Open Category. This permits flights up to 50m horizontally from uninvolved people. This is allowed during the Transitional Period, which runs in the UK until December 31, 2022.
GVC
For operations which pose a greater risk than the Open Category or fall outside the Open Category perimetres, a GVC is required to apply for an Operational Authorisation to fly in the Specific Category.
How Do I Get an A2 CofC or GVC?
Complete an A2 CofC or GVC with Heliguy - a UK CAA-approved Recognised Assessment Entity - through our online training portal.
The A2 CofC involves a syllabus, followed by a multiple choice examination (sat remotely with Heliguy) and a period of practical flight training.
The GVC involves a syllabus, followed by a multiple-choice examination (sat remotely with Heliguy). Candidates are also required to produce an Operations Manual, and will undergo a practical flight assessment with a flight examiner.
Can I Fly Commercially With An A2 CofC or GVC?
Yes. Having an A2 CofC allows you to operate commercially. But the A2 CofC is not specifically a commercial permission; it is a competency which permits flights in the A2 subcategory, regardless of recreational or commercial flying.
You can fly commercially in the Open Category without an A2 CofC, but your operations will be restricted to the conditions of the A3 subcategory.
The GVC allows you to apply for an Operational Authorisation, which has replaced the Permission for Commercial Operation (PfCO), to fly in the Specific Category - geared towards enterprise drone pilots and for operations outside the remit of the Open Category.
Permission For Flight Association Members
Members of Flight Associations can fly under an Article 16 authorisation, which enables flights up to 30m of uninvolved people and 30m horizontal distance from an assembly of people in certain locations - without having to do an A2 CofC or GVC. Article 16 cannot be used for commercial reasons, though.
What Happens If I Had A Valid PfCO?
Holders of a Standard Permission valid beyond December 31, 2020, will have their permissions brought into line with the new Operational Authorisation (which has replaced the PfCO) to enable operations in the Specific Category. On renewal, this permission will become an Operational Authorisation. This means that you will not need to sit a GVC course yet, but will be required to complete a PfCO to GVC conversion course before January 1, 2024.
From January 2023 (End of Transitional Period)
The rules will change for DJI aircraft in their current form. Updated information released nearer the time.
