Suitability

The Firefly is the perfect cost effective choice for beginners.

The heli was designed with the beginner in mind, and design features such as the 45 degree flybar combined with patent pending ultra efficient swash plate make it extremely stable for a fixed pitch helicopter. In fact, the Firefly flies very similar to the Heliguy Atom.

Despite its Coaxial levels of stability, the Firefly still comes with the usual advantages of a fixed pitch helicopter. The greater agility and maneuverability offer more potential as you progress your flying. This in turn gives a more continual learning experience without the need to upgrade every few months.

Indoor or Outdoor use?

The Firefly has both an indoor and an outdoor mode. Outdoor mode allows for a greater swash movement and increases its suitability for outdoor use. Indoor mode has a limited swash movement for indoor use. The user can select Indoor / Outdoor by the push of a button on the radio control.

Mode 1 or Mode 2?

As standard the Firefly is supplied in Mode 2 (standard radio configuration for the UK). However, unlike most helis, it can easily be changed to Mode 1. Simply remove 4 screws from the radio and rotate the control panel through 180 degrees. No changing of wires, plugs etc .

Spares

Spares availability and support is very important when choosing a heli. This is why we stock a full range of Firefly spares (and upgrades).

How does the Firefly compare to the Honeybee V2?

We have designed the Firefly as a replacement for the discontinued Honeybee V2. Both are similarly priced, 4 channel, indoor / outdoor fixed pitch helicopters. The Firefly, however, is much more stable and beginner friendly, while still having a good level of agility and manoeuvrability for when you progress.

Whats included?

This is a fully RTF ready to fly helicopter. This means everything you need to get started is included in the package. Simply unpack the heli, charge the battery, carefully read the instructions and off you go.

EXCELLENT TRAINER HELI

I have had loads of small heli's and this is by far the best trainer out there it's stable and allows you to master flying away and towards yourself, its strong and very easy to repair, strongly recommended over the e-sky stuff which in my opinion is rubbish!

Good helicopter for beginers

I am writing this review from the perspective of a fun-seeker migrating on to a 4ch helicopter.

This helicopter is advertised as RTF (Ready to Fly) and is kitted accordingly. This comes as a complete helicopter all connected and configured waiting to be charged and flown. The 4ch. remote is included.

Having found the package such, I did was expected and was not let down by the helicopter at all. From the first flight till now, it behaves exactly as it should.

The controls are nimble, machine responsive and flight enjoyable.

I have flown it outdoor, in wind and it is able to take it all.

The only gripe I have with this is very poor engineering of the body, especially the battery door.

You see, this helicopter requires the battery to be charged outside, then placed underneath the body in a compartment. Then a door closed under the battery, holding it in place.

Unfortunately this door is very poorly designed. If this is supposed to take the weight of the battery in flight, it fails miserably. Just after my 3rd flight I found the battery dangling under the helicopter. Once later on landing the door flew away altogether.

Surely an important component as this should have been made more sturdy.

Rest is ok. Heliguy's delivery was as good expected (given the cost of p&p)

Thanks for your help. I think I will design one. I did see one that wraps around the base of the handle and has the tripod screw thread offset to the side. I think I can do better, a hinged bottom plate, with a tripod screw hole in the center and a clasp that inserts into the handle release slot.

Fabulously informative. I'm a professional photography by trade but I'm new to drones and perhaps asked some daft questions but they were replied very professionally and very informatively. Many thanks!

Both my emails where answered to help try and fault find my problem, so I can see if it would be cost affective to repair myself. Before deciding weather it's worth spending too much to have the drone sent in for repair.
